Portal: Invest Nepal

Invest Nepal is an information-based web portal dedicated to serve as an authorized source for existing policies governing Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and other business-related information. It also helps to facilitate interaction among investors, sector experts and government agencies. The portal began operation in July 2012, hosted by the Ministry of Industry (MOI) and managed by the Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) in cooperation with USAID-NEAT Activity.

Ministry of Industry

The Ministry of Industry (MOI) is a central agency for the development of the industrial sector, working with various departments and divisions. It was established in 2008 with the objective of accelerating growth in the industrial sector, creating job opportunities, and promoting industrial production and exportable items for economic growth and development.

The key role of the ministry is to promote national and international funding for the industrial development of the nation. Through public-private dialogues the ministry is working to establish an investment-friendly environment in the country.

As an important strategy in resource mobilization, the Government of Nepal (GON) is placing a high priority on foreign investment. In order to encourage foreign investment, the GON formulated a new Industrial policy in 2010. The policy is liberal, transparent and compatible with international provisions. Efforts have been made to provide incentives and facilities to investors through a one-window system. The GON has also undertaken a series of fundamental reforms in fiscal, monetary, industrial, commercial and labor policies to create an attractive environment for investment. Incentives and facilities have been offered to local as well as foreign investors.

Confederation of Nepalese Industries

The Confederation of Nepaliese Industries (CNI) is a professionally-led apex body representing large- and medium-scale industries in the manufacturing and service sectors. It is a non-governmental and non-profit organization actively addressing issues related to development processes of Nepal.

CNI's objectives are to ensure meaningful policy inputs by the government, create an industrial environment conducive to domestic and foreign investment, act as a harbinger of global change, and represent the best interests of the manufacturing and service industries in Nepal.
